Personal
Dr. Kersten lives with his wife, Casey, a Veterinarian at Avery Creek Pet Hospital, and children Bennett, Brooks, and Wesley, and dogs, Fritz & Greta.  He grew up playing basketball in Angola, IN, and was attracted to orthopedics because of the various injuries he suffered and witnessed during those times.  The Kerstens were drawn to the Asheville area because of the friendly people, outdoor recreation opportunities, and abundance of good food.  Dr. Kersten’s first cousins, the Plumlees, played basketball for Christ School prior to playing at Duke and greatly encouraged them to find a job in the Asheville area.  When not in the office or hospital, you may find Dr. Kersten golfing, water skiing, bird hunting, snow skiing, SCUBA diving, fly fishing, or traveling the world, but likely you would just find him spending time with his family.
